Monte Christo
Underground Cellar
Clyde
Carved into the hillside, the Monte Christo underground cellar reveals itself as a hidden sanctuary for wine. Entry is through solid cedar doors and along a narrow walkway, before the full vaulted volume opens up in dramatic fashion.
The plaster-finished ceiling and ribs accentuate the vaulted form, while the coloured concrete floor echoes the tones of the restored Féraud winery nearby. At the rear, a discreet passage leads to the wine library, where past vintages rest in perfect conditions, naturally cooled by the steady temperature from the mass of the surrounding earth.
