Monte Christo Tasting Room
Clyde

Jean Désiré Féraud, the first to produce wine in the South Island, built the historic schist structure that now houses the Monte Christo tasting room.

Over the years, the building had been altered in ways that obscured its character, so we stripped it back to the original stonework and rebuilt with authenticity in mind. Reclaimed hardwood trusses, sarking, and an acid-washed galvanised roof reintroduce strength while keeping a time-worn patina.

A new lean-to on the eastern side takes its cues from a former structure, while extensive underpinning of the stone walls and a coloured concrete floor ensure the building’s longevity.
