Chittock House, Bannockburn

Passive Solar Design, Sustainable Home

The climate in Central Otago is extreme in both winter and summer so this design has been developed to utilise passive solar design, to maximise heat gain in winter and minimise cooling in summer.

Features

Ample shading provided by the veranda, with good cross-flow ventilation.

Thermal mass of the concrete floor is used, with slab edge insulation to minimise heat loss.

All insulation is double building code requirements.

High-performance double glazing with argon and thermally broken frames.

Solar panel array generates enough power to off-set the minimal heating and cooling costs.
