Position:

SENIOR ARCHITECTURAL TECHNICIAN/SUPERVISOR

on: Invercargill, Central Otago or Nelson
Type: Full-Time

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work as an integral part of a dynamic architectural design team. The successful applicant will be involved in a wide variety of residential and commercial projects.

The successful applicant is likely to be in a leadership position already or be looking for that step up to a supervisory role. A primary responsibility will be in providing effective leadership, supervision and hands-on support to a technical production team. You will proactively ensure an efficient operation for the ‘production’ of architectural building consent and construction documentation.

The successful applicant will need to have significant experience in residential and commercial construction. We seek a ‘nuts n bolts’ person, someone who thrives on the technical aspect of the construction industry. The role will require close interaction with our architectural design and documentation team.

You must lead by example and have the confidence and assertiveness to manage and mentor others. You will be expected to provide clear instruction to team members and assist in resolving technical issues. A pivotal aspect of the role will be workflow planning. Coupled to this will be the need to ‘inspect what we expect’ and deliver the final output to a high standard. A total commitment to accuracy and quality is essential. 

In this position we seek a well organised person with initiative. We require someone with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. We need someone who possesses a sense of urgency, someone with the ability to forward plan in order to keep projects moving. You must be a multi-tasker who is able to juggle many projects with excitement. Most importantly we need someone that can articulate themselves openly and to a wide audience.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Liaise closely with our architectural design team.
  • Provide supervision and hands-on support to our technical production team.
  • Co-ordinate workflow, set deadlines and monitor progress.
  • Establish and maintain project budget targets.  
  • Liaise with 3rd party consultants. 
  • Undertake independent drawing checks. 
  • Supervise the production and delivery of architectural building consent and construction documentation. 
  • Lodge building consent applications liaise with TA’s and address any RFI’s. 
  • Monitor staff with regard to company | industry standards. 
  • Orchestrate an on-going staff training programme. 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant codes, technical information, draughting standards, equipment, techniques and software applications.
  • Assist with staff reviews where appropriate.
  • Cultivate a team environment.
  • Comply with company standards and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience within the New Zealand building industry.
  • Thorough understanding of NZS3604, NZBC and architectural detailing.
  • Excellent knowledge of current construction practices.
  • Have a willingness to obtain a building practitioner’s design license.
  • Proficient use of information technology, computer literacy (MS Word and Excel etc).
  • Hold a diploma in architectural draughting, NZCAD (preferred but not essential).
  • Proficiency using Archicad software (preferred but not essential).
