At DesignBASE we aim to inform the public about design so they are well prepared when they take on a design project. Recently we have published two booklets aimed at doing this. The first, called ‘Understanding the Building Design Process’ is an informative guide if you are about to undertake a new house or house alteration project. The second, ‘Understanding the Product Development Process’ is a must have for anybody wanting to take a new product to market. Both booklets are available free of charge by contacting our office.

| Trap can be choosy about its prey |

Build a better mousetrap, so the saying goes, and the world will beat a path to your door.
Retired ecologist Bruce Thomas hopes this adage proves true.
After decades of work in conservation, the Nelsonian believes he has developed a revolutionary trap, which he hopes will be an important weapon in controlling predators.
Mr Thomas, who previously worked at the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and Landcare Research said what set his powerful trap apart was the way the bait was loaded under the trigger.

After over 40 years living in Invercargill DesignBASE director Tony Williamson has flown the coup to live and set up shop in Central Otago. Tony is committed to establishing an office based in Alexandra to service existing and new clients in the greater Central Otago area. Tony’s existing Southland clients can rest assured Tony will still be on hand as he is regularly commuting between both offices and still has the back up of the mechanical team based in Invercargill.
When Tony is not at work you might see him in the hills above Alexandra on his mountain bike, perhaps with his three sons in tow.
The Alexandra office will provide a complete range of engineering and architectural services.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of DesignBASE Dunedin Limited. This company is the result of the directors of DesignBASE coming together with the Dunedin business BM Design Limited. Managing Director, Bruce McAllister is well known in the mechanical and product design sectors in Dunedin and is keen extend his services to include the resource pool now available after the company merger. Bruce currently services the Dunedin area offering production engineering, mechanical design and project management.
Bruce comes from a background of 15 years serving the manufacturing industry including Australian automotive and US appliance companies in recent times.
By joining forces with the design base management team we believe there is a good opportunity for one company in Dunedin to offer multiple facets of engineering design.
